What are your thoughts about online storage?
Nowadays, I’m beginning to think that hard drives are not reliable. I spend so much time doctoring my hard drives and one day it crashes and I lose all the information on it. I also can’t find a good recovery program to retrieve my files. Therefore, I need to start over.
I think about storing on two hard drives but it seems redundant. Then, the thought of storing online comes to mind. I wouldn’t mind spending some money on this kind of storage. The main issue seems to be PRIVACY. Could it be a way to crack down on piracy?
Anyone have any thoughts on this matter? Thanks in advance.
I wouldn’t trust it to be honest
It could get hacked and you could lose it all…
i only use it to share a file for few days only to transfer to a friend but i would never trust to have it there for year or for life as they say because you never know when they close their server. I suggest get a bif hard dis and use it to save files only
not to run operating system on it or so. just for storage it will last long and you will have your files safe with you
good luck
why to buy Space ??
When u have unlimited mail box space… u can use yahoo mail id and u can store unlimited data online ..attach yr important documents and mail them to yr yahoo mail id and store the documents for free online forever …this is the best solution.
and also u can send a attachments upto 20 MB each.

PAri,
If you are worried about the reliability of your hard drives, but don’t trust the online storage. Why don’t you just get a RAID setup on your harddrives. Check the web for them, they are a bit more expensive but well worth it. Look into the Buffalo TerraStation, its 4 250gig hard drives attached to your LAN. If one dies then you can use the same info on the other drive.
Too easy for those sites to get hacked. Hard drives are not made to last forever. That is why it is better to have your files copied to a hard disk. Keeping only what is really important to you. When you have to install a new hard drive just transfer the info back into the computer and recopy the info again. Even CDs wear out as well.
If you are worried about securing your files online, I would use encryption before uploading them, depending on your needs online storage isn’t a bad idea, it will be there wherever you go around the world…but on the other hand HDD space is sooo cheap today, I would buy another hard drive and make a copy of any important data locally.
