Question by diane g: storing a house full furnishing in W PA. The storage not heated can we put yahama piano wood antiques in?
is it ok to store a piano, refrig. and wood furniture in a unheated storage unit?

I live in W PA also i would not recommend storing the piano or the antique wood in an unheated unit. If you cant find a controlled unit try asking friends and relatives if you can put some in their houses. With the wide temperature and humidity variences wooden items can warp and crack.

when you consider the cost ,time and problems you will run into rethink doing it yourself and just buy a shed and all you need is a clear place to set it on.other wise your looking at 400-600 in total material cost and two weekends to complete the job.that will include looking for and hauling in the material.and putting it up from slab to roof.the most you will save is about 200 300 dollars is that worth two week ends(may be three) with the guys,girls,friends,family,yourself at the lake

Question by : What type of wood should I use for my storage building ramp?
I am going to build a ramp on the door to my storage building in the back yard and want to know what type of lumber to use. I will probably paint or stain it after I build it so do I still have to use treated wood or will non treated wood do okay outdoors with stain or paint on it? If I use treated wood to build it will the chemicals that it is treated with keep me from being able to paint or stain it?

You have to get pressure treated lumber. If you get untreated lumber even with stain or paint it will most likely warp severely. In about 6 weeks you can go ahead and put a good deck sealer/stain on the wood. I also recommend that after 1 year from sealing the wood, you should repeat and seal it again, that way you will have created the maximum protection for the wood.

Question by : Can you use a public storage unit as a workshop for wood and metal?
I live in a bit of a crowded house and the space available, by building code, is not suitable for wood and metal working. Now im not looking to have a full scale shop just a tinker hut that has some power tools like a drill press, band saw, table saw, and a few hand held power tools.
Can you use a public storage unit as a workshop with those said tools?
