What mass of storage rock is needed to provide this amount of heat ?

Question by jp: What mass of storage rock is needed to provide this amount of heat ?
A solar heated house loses about 6 x107 cal through its outer surfaces on a typical 24 hours winter day. What mass of storage rock is needed to provide this amount of heat if it is brought up to initial temperature of 68 degrees C by solar collectors and the house is maintained at 22 degrees C? (Specific heat of rocks is 0.21 cal/g-0C)
_kg

Answer by Ivan A
The rock will eventually cool down to 22 degrees, releasing an amount of energy given by

q = (0.21) (68-22) = 9.66 cal/g

So, the heat loss by the house needs to be provided by the rock, then the mass of the rock is

mass of rock = 6E7/9.66 = 6200 kg = 6.2 metric tons!

All you need to do is change the file attributes. In “properties” of that drive icon (or each file individually) un-tick the “read-only” box.
If ya wanna do it the old-fashioned DOS way in case windows gives ya a hard time…
Open a command prompt and type: attrib -r (Driveletter):\*.* (Driveletter being the letter of your USB drive-don’t use parentheses either. It should look like this, f’rinstance- attrib -r F:\*.*

Q&A: Is it possible to recover data from a USB mass storage device that my OS doesn’t recognize?

Question by Lauren B: Is it possible to recover data from a USB mass storage device that my OS doesn’t recognize?
I have a 250GB USB removable mass storage device. I am using Windows Vista. The device has stopped working for some reason and can no longer be viewed in Explorer. I have tried rescanning the disks in Disk Management to no avail. All data recovery programs I have tried only work with recognized disks. I would really appreciate any advice. I have an awful lot of data on the disk. Free solutions are preferable as I don’t have any money at the moment. Thank you for any help offered.
The drive does not work in other computers, the same problem occurs.
The spinning noise is repetitive. I.e. it sounds as if it is trying to do the same thing over and over again.
I’m not a tech-head… so I need simple-ish instructions.
Thanks guys.
I have attempted to use “Recover My Files” recovery software, but unfortunately it is reporting errors reading all the sectors on the disc.
It’s not looking good… any further help??
Thanks

You can rip it out of it’s enclosure and install it internally. Most of these are just regular SATA or IDE drives inside. It might just be the USB controller gone bad.

It probably is, just not popping up the folder. Next time you connect try going to my computer and look for removable storage devices, you will see it there.
