DNA and RNA are very similar, differing only in that RNA contains the 2′-OH ribose sugar. Although the change is minimal, it has significant effects on the stability and structuring of RNA. RNA is inherently more unstable than DNA, given that ribose sugars are more reactive than deoxyribose sugars. You don’t want a storage molecule that will be reacting with other proteins in the cell. This 2′-OH ribose sugar also has the ability to interact with groves in the RNA, causing cleavage of the entire molecule. Also, DNA is inherently more stable at alkaline conditions, making it favourable over RNA. The last point to mention is that double-stranded DNA can be much more easily folded into tight, compact forms than RNA can. The beauty of supercoiled DNA is that small parts can be unwound easily and transcribed; RNA does not fold and unfold so easily.
Although RNA has advantages (i.e. is more UV resistant), it works much better as a temporary container of information, like in mRNA, than it does for long-term storage.

Where can I find information on storage facility laws for PA?
Question by Sara: Where can I find information on storage facility laws for PA?
Looking for a law concerning how long storage facilities have to keep personal items after other intems had to be sold.

They don’t sort out personal items. Normally, when someone defaults and fails to pay for their storage unit, they have to be sent a certified letter giving them a certain amount of days to settle up or the ENTIRE CONTENTS of the storage shed are forfeited to the facility. Most states are 30 or 60 days. Almost never longer than 60 days. Most of the facilities will hold an auction once a month or so and people will bid on the contents of the sheds, sight unseen. You get whatever is inside the shed if you win the bid and the proceeds go to the Storage facility to pay for the debt of the person who defaulted. 100% Perfectly legal because if you do not continue to pay your bill, your property is considered abandoned by any court. Most famous sale was the O.J. Simpson memorabilia that OJ tried to take back at gunpoint. He is in jail now all because he defaulted on a storage shed payment. Sometimes you can get some good stuff at these sales. Sometimes it is just junk but they are pretty fun anyway. A few states will also require that it is announced in the local newspaper that the contents of the storage shed of John Doe will be sold on such and such a date.

What happens when information is deleted from a secondary storage device?
Question by Ploomz: What happens when information is deleted from a secondary storage device?
I’m pretty sure secondary storage devices are just things like USBs. I figure the file that the information was on is just erased, but I need a more technical way to say that? It’s for a computer project.

Here is one websites info on what happens when data is deleted. This goes for primary, secondary, usb flash drives ect.
————-
In most cases, delete files, folders and other forms of computer data are forwarded to the Recycle Bin, in case accidental deletion took place and the information needs to be recovered. There are some instances when deleted information is diverted and never reaches the bin. What most people do not realize is that, when the information is emptied from the Recycle Bin, it has not been deleted at all. The successful recovery of these files and other electronic tidbits can be accomplished, since they still reside within the system.
So, what happens to the data after the Recycle Bin has been emptied? In reality, the items that are contained within the bin have not been deleted – only the signs that show the electronic path to them have been eradicated. In other words, the information is still contained within the hard drive, but the signs which tell the system where they are located are destroyed, so that the computer does not recognize the fact that they are still residing within its memory. This is the reason that the recovery of deleted data can be accomplished. It was never actually gone, to begin with.
These signs, called “pointers”, are the indicators that data is present within the structure of the computer. Without them, the common user believes that the information has been removed. I.T. professionals, on the other hand, possess the knowledge and necessary tools for the recovery of this data.
Though recovery of deleted data can be performed when these pointers have been erased, the chances of complete recovery diminish as times passes. This is due to the fact that the hard drive will eventually rewrite newly stored information over top of the previously stored data that was targeted for deletion. It typically takes quite awhile for this to take place, but will – inevitably – happen at some point in the future.

If you want some other sites simply google “What happens when data is deleted” and there are various sites that come up if you need more information.
