Make Those Pounds and Pence Stretch That Bit Further
The early months of the year such as January, February and March tend to times when we have fewer pounds in their pockets and less money to spend, due to the Christmas spend coupled with the recent increases in VAT and petrol prices.

Family put down deposits, they eloped…should they pay us back?
Okay, so this is probably something that should be in a different catagory but I figure everyone here is either going through or gone through a wedding.
My brother and his now wife were planning a February 2011 wedding. They eloped over Labor Day weekend and now the rest of us are out the money. My parents paid for the reception at a local hotel in full already as they were offered a discount to do so. That was $22,000! They also paid for the photographer, another $6,800. That is just what our parents paid. I as a wedding gift bought her dress, crinoline, bustier and shoes. My receipt total for that day was $1,581.67…I have it sitting next to me. I am furious. If they had at any time wanted to elope they should have made it clear. NO ONE was pushy with them. My parents and myself made it clear that they were running the show and call us if you need help. They even had a planner that was hired.
I asked her if I could have the dress I bought her (that is still in the dress bag from the bridal store) to try and sell on a wedding web site and she flipped out. I snapped and said that I would have never spent that money for a dress to hang in a closet and never be worn and I thought it was only fair for me to try and recoupe of the lost money. Not to mention the $260 bridesmaid dress and custom dyed shoes I had to buy for myself to be in the wedding. She is no longer speaking to me.
My mother called my brother and told him they needed to talk about their lost deposits. Due to the fact that it is less than 6 months out, under their contract they only get 50% of what they have paid back. So they are out $11,000! Some people do not even spend that on their entire wedding!
The photographer was a little better. He went ahead and gave back all but $500.
We are all just furious that they have the “people do it all the time” and actually were laughing at us when we brought up the fact that we had already spent a ton of money. They act like we should be happy for their decision to just make it happen and actually had the NERVE to say no one has sent them a gift yet. WHAT?????????????????
We are all just so upset with the fact that we put our hard earned money into something to make them happy, they gave NO ONE any indication that they no longer wanted this wedding and never told anyone there was an issue. Myself and my parents were not really involved in the planning as they had a planner and we wanted to let them do their thing, but this is just wrong.
Do you think we are out of line for wanting to trying and be reimbursed for what we spent.
They say it was a spur of the moment thing and that they did not plan it, but I say that it does not matter..they need to pay people back.
What do you think or what would you do if this was your sibling?
Is it safe to store wood furniture in a storage unit for a few months this winter in Minnesota?
I will be storing 2 dressers from August until February in a non-climate controlled storage unit. I know it’s not the best for it, but I have limited options. I just don’t want it to get ruined. It will be up on pallets to keep the moisture away. Can 6 months really hurt it that much?
GLaDOS Guide to February 10th
These rules do not represent the writings and ides of any one person. Rules may vary depending on your location. The following video is intended as guide for Anonymous preparing to engage in their first real-life public demonstration. It will also provide a refresher for those of you who have experience with this modality of petition. The purpose of the demonstration in a modern western society is to convey a message to the public. In keeping with this objective, Anonymous has drafted 22 rules that Anonymous can follow in order to assure epic win and no loss of hit points on your part. Rule #0: Rules 1 and 2 of the internet still apply. Your memes are not, at this juncture, something that the real world can appreciate. Although meme speak between fellow Anonymous is acceptable, focus on the target and keep it to a minimum. Rule #1: Stay cool. Rule #2: Stay cool, especially when harassed. You are an ambassador of Anonymous. Although individuals trying to disrupt your demonstration will get on your nerves, you must not lose your temper. Doing so will harm the protest and tarnish the reputation of Anonymous. Rule #3: Comply with the orders of law enforcement officers above all else. Doing otherwise is harmful to the demonstration as a whole and may compromise your performance as a human being. Do not request badge numbers unless you are being treated in a very abusive manner, as doing so will anger officers. Rule #4: Notify city officials. Most jurisdictions either have …
Should Atheists Organize Politically?
A discussion between Bill Maher and Adam Carolla on the “Overtime” segment of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” last week, left me with some questions about whether atheists should organize politically and about whether some atheists are as close-minded as some religious people that I explore in this video. The press release about the the February 26, 2010, meeting between officials in the Obama Administration and members of the Secular Coalition for America that I show in this video is available online at www.secular.org And, the clips I use from the “Overtime” segment of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” come from Episode 174, the rest of which was originally broadcast on February 26, 2010, which is available on the HBO website at www.hbo.com
