Why do some old houses not have closets?
I heard that people circa 1700-1800 did not have closets due to having to pay per room. Not sure if it was tax they paid or what. Did that originate from England?
I was reminded today that the information was given from a tour guide at the Carnton Plantation in Franklin, TN.
